General description

Fragment of the Padibastet's Book of the Dead
Provv. 6288 is a small fragment of probably larger Book of the Dead manuscript, dated to the twenty-fifth or the twenty-sixth Dynasty, made for Padibastet, whose parents were Horwedja and Tamyt.
The section contains part of the nearly completely preserved spell 100 from the Book of the Dead, entitled as “Spell to satisfy the Ba of a glorified spirit in the necropolis and to make him descend into the boat of Ra”. The text of the spell allowed Padibastet to manifest himself as "excellent spirit" and travel as such in the bark of the sun god Re.
The vignette above the text depicts the deceased in the solar boat together with Ra and the Benu-bird (phoenix). In front of the boat stands Osiris  between the emblem of the east and the Djed-pillar, a sacred symbol associated with Osiris and cult place Busiris.
