Letter
Cat. 1971 is a long letter addressed to the Necropolis scribe Djehutymes who recently left on a journey south to Nubia. It is written by his son, the Necropolis scribe Butehamun and two chantresses of Amun named Shedemduat and Hemetsherit. They begin the letter by expressing their hope that the gods will assist him, protect him and bring him back home safely. They then respond to some matters and questions asked by Djehutymes in a letter he had sent them earlier. Butehamun explains that he is carrying out the task given to him by Djehutymes, that of giving libation offerings to Amun. The writers also address the issue with the spears, in which Butehamun says he has settled this task. Also listed are the issues of the policeman of the tomb Kes, the matter of the son of Iunefer and finally they inform him that the little children, the woman named Hemetsherit and her daughter are all right. This letter is the response given to a pervious letter which is written on Cat. 2026.
