Letter

Cat. 1979 is a letter from Deir el-Medina written in the hieratic script, dating to the New Kingdom. The author Paynefernefer, scribe of the treasury of the temple of Amun-Re, is writing to Tjary, scribe of the tomb, beginning with the conventional letter formula of greetings: “In life-strength-and-health and in the favour of Amun-Re, the king of the gods. I pray every day to Amun-Re, the king of the gods, to Mut and to Khonsu and all the Theban gods: may you have life-strength-and-health, a long life and a venerable old-age, many and countless favours in front of Amun-Re, the king of the gods, the good lord, every day”. Paynefernefer says that his brother, the prophet of the god Sobek, must settle an affair dealing with a certain man called Kasesu. Paynefernefer knows that Tjary wants to catch Kasesu and recommends setting him free until the arriving of his brother, who will be informed about the situation. At the end, he orders not to hurry Kasesu until his brother will arrive to solve the issue with him.
