Textual amulet with BoD chapter 100

The papyrus stripe contains chapter 100 of the Book of the Dead, an incantation for transfiguring the deceased into a 'glorified spirit'. The title of the formula, according to parallels, would be: “Spell for making content the ba-soul of the "glorified spirit" (=deceased), and enabling him to go down into the boat of Ra with his following.

As single spell, chapter 100 is sometimes found outside the Book of the Dead corpus as a separate charm written on a small piece of papyrus, having the purpose of a papyrus amulet. The papyrus stripe was used for the protection of Nanebu, daughter of Asetweret, who is depicted standing in the sun-boat in front of Ra and the phoenix.

Sailing the phoenix to Abydos (and) Osiris to Busiris, destroyed [...]

l.2 She has paved the way for the sun-disk,

she has drawn Sokar on his sledge,

she makes strong the “Great-one” at her time, the entourage of Osiris.

Nanebu, justified, l.3 [born by Asetweret,] justified;

her praise of the sun-disk, (because) she has joined with those who are in jubilation.

She is one of them.

She acted as second(=companion) to Isis (and) third (=assistant) to Nephthys;

l.4 [she is strong by] their glory.

She has bound the tow rope (and) repelled her enemies, turned back their steps.

Ra has given her his arms, his crew will not repel l.5 [her…] 

Nanebu, justified, born by Asetweret, justified.

The wedjat-eye is strong, and vice versa.
