Letter from Djehutimes to his son Butehamun
Cat. 1972 is a letter from Deir el-Medina written in the hieratic script, dating to the 20th Dynasty. It is the first letter written by the scribe Djehutimes to his son who is in Thebes, the scribe of the necropolis Butehamun. In this letter he addresses his son and the chantress of Amun, called Shedemduat, and informs them that he has been taken by boat to Edfu and subsequently reaching the general at Elephantine. Djehutimes asks them to pray to Amun in order to come back home safely and he recommends Butehamun to perform his duties: he must give to the children and to the servants of Shedemduat, the daughter of Khonsumose, as well as to the soldiers everything they need. The letter ends with a further request, addressed to some workmen, to pray to Amun and the other gods so that Djehutimes could come back alive.
