Contract for the exchange of a cow
Cat. 2124 belongs to the private archives of Tsenhor, a woman belonging to a family of choachytes, “those who offer libations”, as part of the cult of the dead. This contract, dating to 507 BC, outlines the exchange of a cow. The contract is between the herdsman Pawahamun and Burekhef, one of Tsenhor’s brothers. The rancher gives Burekhef the cow for labour, though it is not specified what he is getting in return. It is mentioned that Burekhef had previously received this cow for labor for the duration of a year. It can be assumed that Tsenhor received this document in her archives a year later, when the time came to divide their assets as a family. The verso contains a list of witnesses.
